I currently work part-time as the Relationship Manager and Anxiety Counsellor at the charity Mosaic - Tikai Tangata.
Mosaic specialises in clinical and peer-led trauma and sexual abuse recovery services for males of all ages.
I previously worked as the manager of the Wellington Anxiety Disorder Clinic.
The clinic operated in Wellington for 14 years as part of the Phobic Trust (now Anxiety NZ Trust). Since then, I've been privileged to coach a number of people who struggle with social anxiety and performance-related panic.
I'm passionate about mental health, and destigmatising the struggle Kiwis have with it. 1 in 6 of us will be diagnosed with mental illness at some point in our lives. That's 801, 600 of us.
Mental health issues should be no weirder or taboo to Kiwis than a broken arm is to a doctor.
Professionally, I've got a lot going on. Besides Anxiety Sorted and my role with Mosaic - Tiaki Tangata...
- I run my own web design and content management business - Cheeky Upstart
- I'm a certified facilitator of SMART Recovery, a science and evidence-based group programme that focuses on recovery from addictions and problematic behaviours
- In the spring/summer I run a gardening business called Backyard Bliss.
I'm passionate about coaching and mentoring, dogs of all kinds (I'm a passionate and active member of the Dog Share Collective), nature, tiny houses and simple, uncomplicated living.
It’s important to have a clearly defined, sacred purpose for your life that you can inject into your every day. Tie everything you do: mundane, average & spectacular, every day, to that purpose. That purpose will keep you centred no matter what is going on around you.
